Or it might as well be. I was once told I see the world in frames, and I can't think of a more perfect way to describe what I do.
Oh hey there, I’m Emma Newby — a Brisbane-based photographer who hates writing about pages for her website... but in all seriousness, I love what I do. (And thank goodness for that!)
I am a natural light photographer who specialises in LOVE. Ridiculous, inconvenient, consuming love. The real stuff. The raw moments that capture and then later remind you of who you are.
I was the girl in school who ‘felt’ A LOT.
‘Most Likely to Cry a River’ was possibly my award at the end of six years of high school. Back then feeling too much felt like a curse. Now, it is possibly my favourite thing about myself. That and my mermaid hair. I like that a fair bit too.
The hair may not help me capture beautifully perfectly imperfect moments between you and yours, but my heart sure does...
My passion for love means you will find me in my happy place working with Mamas, Papas and their babes, lovers adoring one another and capturing the stories of those brave enough to share theirs with the world.
If you are a nostalgic soul with the heart of a dreamer, up for getting a little down and dirty to capture the moments that mean the most to you, get in touch, because if that’s the case...You're my kinda human.
The boring bits...
Don't worry, there won't be a test. Promise.
// The camera, has, in reality always been in my hand. Whether real or make believe, I always loved capturing the moments. Often in high school the boys (this lot) would give me the finger to get the camera out of their face. It never worked.
// I am self taught. My only ‘formal’ photography training was for six months in the year 2000, until I realised I could drop an extra unit and still have time for a social life whilst doing my HSC. Sorry photography!
// My first camera was a hot pink 110, now I work with a Canon. My equipment may have changed but my love for capturing emotion and chasing the perfect light certainly hasn't.
// I have spent the past 15 years of life fighting the fact that being a storyteller is what I was put on this earth to do. Isn’t that silly.
The best bits...
// I am the proud daughter of a beautiful, strong single Mama and have a soft spot for women doing it on their own because of it!
// I am the teen generation before mobile phones, so the thousands of images I took as a teenager exist only on film negatives. They live in a shoe box, like all good nostalgia should.
// The older I get the more I love the ocean, get me in the saltwater, STAT.
// I am a perfectly imperfect human being. Like everyone, I am a work in progress. Sometimes I am more than a little uncomfortable in my skin, but I am not afraid to admit it. Sharing our sh*t makes it easier for others to share theirs.
// I actually love getting caught in the rain. (And no, you can keep your Pina Colada, give me a Margarita or French Martini any day...)
